COMMUNITY ACTIVISM
My community outreach and advocacy focuses on, addressing the root causes related to the homicides, the cause of these murders and the lack of community help for the Toronto Police in solving these cases. Also the lack of resources for the youth and after school programs leading to increased violence that leaves many in a state of grief and poverty.
As a Toronto Police 12 Division Volunteer on the CPLC team. (Community Police Liaison Committee) fostering better relationships between police and members of the community. I took the initiative in creating change. I promoted social cohesion and economic inclusion as well as improve Civic Democracy and Diversity. I promotes a community with one voice.
Since 2008, I have held several news conferences to appeal for info on many murdered victims in Toronto, alongside homicide officers and the then Homicide Chief Mark Saunders. The Police and Media have consistently hailed my work in this area. CBC said “Kemi has a very powerful voice in Toronto” I lead the grassroots launch of the 2011 National Victims of Crime Awareness week, attended Crime Stoppers Launch every January since 2008, National Crime Prevention Week and many others. Nearly all of us know someone who have been affected by crime or even died as a result. I have consistently made a difference in the lives of young people as a Crime Victim and Anti-Violence Advocate.
Throughout my work within communities and agencies, to reduce violence and build solidarity, I established a website on Facebook educating the community about being aware of homicides especially in the black male population and helping police with their investigations.https://www.Facebook.com/whataboutoursons I believe Safety is very important in any community for children and community members to grow and live healthier and happier lives.
