Astute businessman and former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has congratulated the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko, on his re-election for a second term.

Kalu, in a statement by his Special Adviser, Political, Oyekunle Oyewunmi, said it was evident, despite the many roadblocks on the way, that Mimiko deserved the victory at the poll.

He said that the fact that the governor, popularly called Iroko, scored about half of the valid votes cast in the election, showed that he is loved by his people.

He said: "The passion of the people for Governor Mimiko shows he has touched their lives in ways they cannot forget.

"This is the very essence of leadership: impacting on the lives of the governed positively and leaving them better than you met them."

Kalu urged Mimiko to continue with his pro-people policies, especially in the areas of education, health care and provision of infrastructure, with roads being a critical one.

The former governor also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for their conduct during the election.

He said by all standards, based on reports, the election was world class, adding: "There is no country in the world where elections are 100 per cent perfect in terms of conduct.
"What matters is for minimum conditions to be met for it to be seen as credible and free and fair.

"And this is one area where President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan should be commended for not interfering in the electoral process.

"At least so we can conclude because in the recent past it would have been a case of do-or-die, where the president's party must emerge victorious whether it deserves the victory or not."
